A tactical plan that buys oversold market leaders when volatility is calm, buys big dips or parks in a dollar/gold/staples mix when fear rises, and runs a leveraged stocks+long‑bonds core in healthy bull markets.

Signals are blended through two volatility gates.
Calm: pick the most “washed‑out” by RSI (a 0–100 meter of recent losses vs gains; low=oversold) among UPRO (3x S&P 500), TQQQ (3x Nasdaq‑100), or SHY (1–3yr Treasuries).
Choppy/bear (SPY >10% off highs): buy sharp 5‑day dips in QQQ/SPY unless a 1‑day >5% snapback; else hold UUP (US$), GLD (gold), XLP (consumer staples).
Healthy bull: 55% UPRO/TQQQ (risk‑balanced) + 45% TMF (3x long Treasuries).
A tactical plan that buys oversold market leaders when volatility is calm, buys big dips or parks in a dollar/gold/staples mix when fear rises, and runs a leveraged stocks+long‑bonds core in healthy bull markets.
Out-of-sample: ~34.95% annualized return vs SPY ~21.84%, aided by volatility gates and dip-buying. Higher upside in bull regimes, but max drawdown ~50% vs ~19% for SPY—higher volatility requires longer horizon tolerance.
When the waters aren't too choppy, this strategy "surfs the wave", catching dips in the relative strength index RSI of leveraged funds when they become more oversold than short term treasury bonds. Volatility checks are added based on the standard deviation of returns of SPY, where the strategy is additionally smoothed out by averaging together the results of two standard deviation of returns percentages (1% and 2%).
